In 2022, I performed as the clarinetist in a five person chamber ensemble for a Celebrity Series of Boston’s Neighborhood Arts concert. We brought to life five newly commissioned works from the 2020–2021 season by Daniel Bernard Roumain, Nathalie Joachim, Paul Desenne, Valerie Coleman, and Amir Bitran.
Celebrity Series & Neighborhood Arts: Bringing Music into Everyday Spaces
Neighborhood Arts is part of Celebrity Series of Boston’s Arts for All! initiative. It offers free performances by local and Boston affiliated artists in neighborhood settings—churches, libraries, community centers—across Boston and Cambridge. Founded in 1938, the Celebrity Series has long been a cultural cornerstone in Boston, connecting audiences with top-tier performers and fostering an inclusive cultural landscape.
My Personal Reflection: A Meaningful and Cherished Opportunity
Looking back, being part of this project was both meaningful and deeply rewarding for me. None of the five of us had ever played together, yet we came together earnestly, working through each piece with care and curiosity. We spent hours navigating what each composer intended, shaping our interpretations as a team. Sharing that journey—and finally bringing it to life in community venues—felt warm, genuine, and something I’ll always look back on fondly.
